1. Kakao Bike Fees and Areas
Kakao T Bike is a bike sharing service operated by Kakao. As a PAS electric bike, the motor only turns when you step on the pedal, and the maximum speed is limited to 20 km/h, so you can drive without a license.

Currently, Kakao Bike is available in the following areas. Since some sections are unavailable, it is recommended to check the Kakao T app for details.

Seoul: Songpa-gu, Gangdong-gu
Busan: Nam-gu, Dongrae-gu, Yeonje-gu, Suyeong-gu, Haeundae-gu
Daegu: Jung-gu, Dong-gu, Seo-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, Suseong-gu, Dalseo-gu
Incheon: Yeonsu-gu, Seo-gu

Ulsan : Buk-gu, Jung-gu, Nam-gu, Ulju-gun
Gyeonggi: Suwon-si, Yongin-si, Gimpo-si, Namyangju-si, Seongnam-si, Siheung-si, Ansan-si, Anyang-si, Hanam-si, Hwaseong-si
Chungbuk : Cheongju
Jeonbuk: Jeonju-si, Wanju-gun

For reference, ‘available area’ means a place where you can rent and return. An additional fee of 20,000 won will be charged if you return the bicycle outside the area, and it does not matter if you return to or from another area within the usage time.

Other areas: Basic fee 1,500 won (15 minutes) + 100 won per additional minute

Tapping on a bike displays the current battery level, how many minutes you can ride, and even checks the local rate system.

3) Kakao Bike Rental
Find the actual bike, then tap ‘Rent’ on the screen above. It is recommended to search for the destination in advance to ensure that the return location is available.

Point your phone camera at the QR code on the back of the bike and scan it. If it is not recognized well, you can enter the 6-digit bicycle number by pressing ‘Enter directly’ at the bottom.

4) Driving and stopping (pause)
Now you can ride Kakao Bike. Maybe you need to stop the bike for a while because you need to go to the bathroom in the middle? In this case, you can press ‘Pause’ in the Kakao T app.

Kakao Bike-Pause-Stop

Unlike Ttareungyi, Kakao Bike is returned when the smart lock is lowered, not ‘temporarily stopped’. You must ‘pause’ through the app.

For reference, Kakao Bikes are treated the same as vehicles, so you need to pay attention to the safety of pedestrians while driving. At crosswalks, you must get off and walk your bicycle, and you must not ride on the sidewalk if there is no bicycle path.

Drunk driving is of course not allowed, and it is impossible to ride with two people. It is a PAS electric bicycle, so wearing a helmet is not compulsory, but it is recommended to wear it for safety.

5) Return and payment
Returning Kakao Bike is simple. Just park the bike and pull down the smart lock lever on the rear wheel. However, please note that an additional fee of 20,000 won will be charged if you return it outside the use area.

And you need a sense of parking in a location that doesn’t interfere with people’s traffic, right? It is recommended to return the bicycle near the bicycle rack, avoiding the entrance of a building or the middle of the road.

If you cannot return it due to a smart lock failure, etc., you can return it by tapping “Emergency (bottom right) > Emergency shutdown > Lock failure” in the Kakao T app.

When the return is complete, the fee is automatically charged through the payment method set in advance. You can set the payment method in the menu right above ‘Rent’ in the rental stage (Kakao Pay, mobile phone micropayment, PayPal, T Point).

If you use Kakao Bike for the first time, you must pay a deposit of 10,000 won, which can be refunded later.
