I looked up the EMS rate table at the post office to send a gift to a friend in Japan by EMS. Since it’s been a long time since I’ve sent it, it seems like the price has gone up compared to before.
First, you can check the post office EMS rate on the post office website. 우체국 EMS 요금표
Go to the post office website
The information below is as of September 14, 2022, as of September 14, 2022. As a matter of fact, the actual price may vary by inquiring the estimated amount.
Post office EMS rate inquiry 좋은뉴스
After accessing the Internet Post Office website, select the [EMS/International Mail – Rate Guide by Country – Delivery Time/Price Inquiry] menu.
You can check the international postage rate table immediately, or use the rate inquiry screen to check the estimated amount more accurately by entering the weight, volume, and insurance amount. You can search by selecting International Express (EMS) as shown below. In EMS, weight is important, but volume also affects it, so it is better to look at the rate together than to just look at the EMS rate table.
Check Japan EMS rates
I will send this and that by courier, so I selected ‘non-documentary’ as the shipment item, and select the destination in Japan. After that, enter the insurance amount appropriately, enter the net weight and volume weight, and press the ‘Calculate’ button. Then the applicable weight is displayed.
Charges for each weight are applied according to the EMS rate table, and special transportation charges or insurance premiums are added to the applicable weight.
You can check the estimated price by clicking ‘Inquiry’ below.
When the volume is 30*30*20 with about 3kg, the estimated EMS fee is 42,300 won. The fee for 3 kg came out to 36,500 won, plus a special transportation fee of 3,000 won and insurance handling fee of 2,800 won.
The special transportation fee is a special fee charged in case of an increase in transportation charges such as infectious diseases such as COVID-19 or natural disasters. Fees vary according to country, weight, etc.
Currently, the special shipping fee has been in effect since July 14, and in Japan, 1,000 won per 1 kg is charged. So it seems that 3,000 won was charged when I expected it to be 3kg.

EMS rate table
Below is the EMS rate table. In the EMS menu, select [Country Rate Guide > International Mail Rate Table], and the following screen appears. You can check the fee by checking the documents/non-documents, and confirming the country and weight.
Just in case, I tried to check the international parcel under the same conditions.
When I searched for the same weight and volume, 29,300 won came out. Postage is 13,000 won cheaper. However, regular parcels have the disadvantage that you cannot check the delivery progress.
In fact, I want to send it as an international parcel, so even if I ask for a cheaper one, the post office recommends EMS as it is almost the same. I always send by EMS because I want to go quickly, but this time I am going to check if I can send it by international parcel.
I’ll send you an EMS and leave a review about how long it’s been. Oh, and you can get a 5% discount if you book online.
